Walk to the disappeared village

Just over a dozen of us set out in the cold this morning to discover the disappeared village of Barewe in the fields across the valley from Culverhay school.  Joe did a great job leading the walk, sharing his research on local history as we came to various notable points along the way.  It was also great to hear the local memories of the other walkers.

In the foreground of the fifth photo in the collection you can see the outline of the medieval dovecote that stood on this spot, looking across to Roundhill in the distance.

Gosh, my jeans look baggy in

Gosh, my jeans look baggy in that. I'd lost a lot of weight by running to keep fit - that's why. Got some decent trousers from Marks and Spencer now.
