Behind the scenes...

It's been very quiet here on the website and on the Events front over the past few months, but there have been a number of activities progressing unseen in the background.

History SignFirstly we've been considering various options for interpretative signs to provide information about the Roundhill.  Joe has done some fantastic research on the history of the hill and the surrounding landscape - click the image to view the full detail.  We are working with the council to agree on the type of sign and arrange production and installation.

Secondly through Bath Spa University we were able to find a student to take on a project to investigate the wildlife on the hill and review the management plan.

SpindleAn initial survey observed that there is Spindle in the hedgerow alongside Whiteway road. You may also be interested in this previous article showing the species identified in the survey by Avon Wildlife Trust.

Finally, we recently had to do some "weeding" around the young trees we planted last winter in preparation for the Roundhill's autumn mowing.  We lost a few trees to the mowers along the bottom edge of the hill, but most have survived.  There is more work to do to clear down the remaining long grass etc in the unmown area.  We also have the offer of more trees from the Woodland Trust via More Tree for BANES - watch this space for our next tree planting event!

Progress on the sign

I exchanged emails with the contact at the council this week and got a contact for a signmaker in order to get a quote.
