Behind the scenes...

It's been very quiet here on the website and on the Events front over the past few months, but there have been a number of activities progressing unseen in the background.

History SignFirstly we've been considering various options for interpretative signs to provide information about the Roundhill.  Joe has done some fantastic research on the history of the hill and the surrounding landscape - click the image to view the full detail.  We are working with the council to agree on the type of sign and arrange production and installation.

We had a successful Litter Pick on April 10th.  We found quite a lot less litter than last...

Next Event

Jubilee Beacon

A free event for the whole community, organised by 31st Bath Scouts, to celebrate Diamond Jubilee

This year, The Queen will celebrate 60 years on the throne. And to celebrate this very special landmark, a network of beacons is being lit, not just in the UK, but throughout the Commonwealth.

Bonfire

Your local Scout Group - 31st Bath Scouts, who meet at St. Barnabas Church in Southdown - have arranged for one of these beacons to be lit right here in Bath.

Southdown Roundhill, with fantastic views over the city, will be the location for one of over 3,000 beacons being lit throughout the world, and we would like to invite you to join in with this very special celebration. The event will start at 8pm, with the beacon being lit at around 10pm.

What is Roundhill?

Twerton Roundhill is an open space in Southdown on the south-western edge of Bath. It is owned and maintained by Bath and North-East Somerset Council. From the top of Roundhill you can enjoy 360 degree panoramic views across the city, over fields and woodland looking towards Wells, and past the Severn Bridges to the Welsh hills. The site was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1994 and is managed to provide a habitat for many species of wild flower, butterflies and other wildlife.

Friends of Roundhill is a non-political group committed to enhancing and looking after The Roundhill, Southdown, and its landscape, heritage and wildlife value, for the benefit of the local community and wildlife.
